If you don’t already know how obsessed I am with hats, you’ve probably been reading this blog with your eyes closed. They’re just the perfect accessory to tie a look together without looking like you’re trying too hard. I am usually partial to a wool fedora or a super floppy hat for sitting by the pool but I’ve been on the lookout for a different style lately. This past week, when I was at a blogger event at one of my favorite local boutiques (Mimi and Red), I spotted the hat I’ve been dreaming of. It was just what I needed to complete (for now) my extensive collection! Actually, one of the employees pulled it off the shelf to try it on and I bet she’s regretting that right now because it turned out to be the last one in stock. Poor gal! I tried it on and knew it was fate. I have found the one whom my head loves. The black material with the subtle stitching set the perfect foundation for the extra wide brim. My favorite part? The ultra stiff material – no flopping, no sagging! So perfect to wear further back on the crown of your head, like I did here.
February is a really tough month for fashion, in my opinion! It’s toeing the line into spring but it’s usually quite chilly because it’s still technically winter. In a place like San Diego, the weather can flip from hot to cold on the daily during this “no man’s land” of a month so I try to keep my wardrobe pretty neutral and ready for anything. I incorporated white and opted for an open-toed shoe but knew I could easily throw on a jacket if the temperatures dropped. For this look, I wanted the hat to be the standout piece, duh. To accomplish this, I kept everything else basic: a plain white tee, ripped black jeans, and a simple sandal. This is just one of those instances where the basics come together to make a big statement.
