I know I’m not the only one who goes a few days without washing my hair! And by a few days, I mean a full week on occasion. Everyone does it and it’s nothing to be ashamed of! On the contrary – it’s actually better for your hair to give it a break between washes. Even if you think you need to wash your hair every single day, you really just need to train it gradually to survive between shampooing. No matter how well-trained you have your hair, there is always a day that it’s going to start looking particularly greasy. This usually happens right before you have to leave the house and definitely don’t have time to wash it. Don’t worry – I have the perfect solution for you that will leave you looking chic and clean. Chicy clean, if you will!
First, let me explain to you what my hair does when it’s dirty. It gets flat and limp, which usually makes it super hard to style your hair! But with this look, both of these things work in your favor. This will allow for your ponytail to look chic and polished! I love to do this style when my hair is stick straight. If it needs to be touched up with a flat iron (I’m obsessed with this one!), do it! The straighter the better.
- Before you start styling, you should apply dry shampoo around your crown. Be sure to hold the spray 10-12 inches away from your hair to avoid that white powdery residue. Avoid putting dry shampoo around your hair part – the natural oils in your hair are necessary to make this look sleek!
- Since dirty hair tends to separate, you should give it a quick tease around the crown. Do this in small layers, teasing delicately. You don’t need to add volume this way (I like to add just a little bit!) – it will just keep the hair from developing gaps.
- Once your crown is teased to your liking, start smoothing out the top layer and grouping your hair into a ponytail. I like to leave a middle part in tact to give it a more modern look! The teasing comb comes in really handy for smoothing.
- When your ponytail is completely smooth, tie it off with an elastic right at the nape of your neck.
- For a polished look, I take a small section of hair from the bottom of ponytail (about 1/4 inch wide) and wrap it around the elastic until it’s completely covered. Pin it in place with a small bobby pin!
- To finish the look, spray a bit of flexible hairspray over top. Wait 5 seconds to allow the hairspray to set and then very lightly, smooth any fly-aways with the teasing comb.
