I found this dress when I was just browsing through the racks at Forever 21. Generally, I don’t ever look at F21 for more formal pieces but it’s a total gold mine for standard basics or trendy pieces that you don’t want to spend a lot of money on. Once in a while, though, you hit the jackpot and find a diamond in the rough. This piece came into my wardrobe at the perfect time because I had a bunch of formal events coming up. I was getting tired of the same old stuffy dress that I kept finding – boring colors and lifeless silhouettes. This one was everything but that – it was sheer goodness.
Although this dress is definitely a statement piece, the black color and classic neckline keep it grounded. If there was anything different about this dress, it just wouldn’t work! In dim light, you can barely distinguish which parts are sheer. Only in direct light does the bottom become totally sheer and reveal your legs. The dark color of the sheer fabric provides just enough coverage to cover up any imperfections you may have on your legs – woo hoo. It’s daring but definitely doable!
To keep the rest of the look really simple and not go overboard with the trendiness, I opted for straight hair and neutral makeup. I also kept the shoes relatively simple, going with a sleek black sandal with tassel detailing. This isn’t totally necessary to complete the look but I figured since the sheer fabric was going to show the shoes, I might as well add another subtle element of interest!
Would you rock a look like this?
