If my mom and aunts have taught me one thing in my life, it was to take care of my skin! Whether it be on your body or face, you only get one set for your entire life so you better nurture it. (I can hear my mom and aunts clapping as they read this.) My aunt Patti always made sure I took off my makeup every night – she says this is a MUST- and my mom says to invest in a good sunscreen and apply it religiously. I have to say, I trust everything they say because my mom and her two sisters all look like they’re 25 years old so I try my best to follow their lead when it comes to my nighttime skincare routine.
Taking care of your skin truly is the best beauty investment you can make – no amount of makeup will ever be able to cover texture, wrinkles, and large pores. Everything looks better when you have good skin! I am not always perfect when it comes to my skincare but I really do see a difference when I am diligent about my routine. Today I will show you all of the products in my nighttime skincare routine before bed to make sure I wake up feeling refreshed, hydrated, and smooth.
- I always start by properly removing my makeup. I’ve been using the Clinique Take the Day Off Balm for a few months and I love it. It’s a makeup removing balm that completely melts any makeup, dirt, and sunscreen away. My favorite way to use it is to apply a thin layer all over the face and rub in circular motions and then wipe it away with a dry cotton round. If I am wearing a ton of makeup and need double duty, I use a makeup wipe instead of dry cotton round.
- Once my makeup is removed, I follow it up with ThirstyCleanse Daily Cleanser. I love this one because it washes away any excess makeup and oil without stripping the skin. My favorite part is the unique mud to foam formula – you apply the mud to slightly damp skin and as you add more water, it foams up into a traditional cleanser. It leaves your skin feeling clean and plump!
- To make sure my skin gets really clean, I lather the cleanser with my Foreo Luna Mini 2 device. If you buy one single thing from this post, make it this! I have been using this for over 2 years now and I’ve noticed such a difference in my skin. The gentle silicone brush combined with sonic pulsations cleans your face on deep level without being abrasive. What I really love about it is the fact that the silicone material doesn’t harbor any bacteria and can be disinfected very easily – as opposed to a lot of the other cleansing brushes on the market. Also, I have used this device every morning and night for over 2 years and I have charged it once! Best thing ever. Can other batteries learn something from Foreo, please?!
- I follow up my cleaning with a gentle toner. I use Caudalie Moisturizing Toner because it’s refreshing but doesn’t dry my skin out at all. It can be hard to find that happy medium with a toner but this one has been perfect for me. I love that it’s alcohol free and helps to brighten and moisturize my skin.
- When I use a mask, this is the point where I would do it! I don’t use a face mask every night because that would be too harsh on my skin. I usually try to incorporate a mask about once a week but twice a month would be sufficient. You can find all of my favorite face masks and what I use them for here.
- As a nightly moisturizer, I have been loving Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation Perfecting Moisturizer. It weightlessly moisturizes and evens tone – what more could you ask for? I love that it’s an oil-free formula because it doesn’t clog my pores. Since I have dry skin, I always thought there was no limit in terms of moisture but I was wrong. It still needs to be the right kind of moisture for my skin.
- Once or twice a week, I use less than a pea-size amount of SkinMedica Retinol Complex (recommended by my dermatologist) to improve skin texture and prevent fine lines. Because I don’t have problematic skin and I am still young, the retinol percentage is very low (25%) but if you have more fine lines, wrinkles, or uneven tone you would go with a higher concentration. Consult with your dermatologist about what’s right for you! Be sure to avoid extra sensitive areas, such as under your eyes or around your nose.
- To treat my under eyes for dryness and dark circles, I make sure to use a high-quality eye cream. Be extra gentle when applying your eye cream! This skin is ultra delicate and prone to fine lines. To make sure you’re not being too rough, apply the cream with your ring finger. This is the weakest finger so it will automatically apply light pressure. My favorite cream is the Maracuja C-Brighter Eye Treatment by Tarte. It does exactly what it says – hydrates, firms, and brightens. I noticed a visible difference after about a week!
- If my lips are feeling extra dry or cracked, I use a homemade lip scrub so that my lips can properly absorb moisture. After I scrub off any dry skin, I wipe the lips clean and apply PoutMud Wet Lip Balm Treatment. This allows my lips to hydrate all night long!
