When I hear “sweater dress,” I think of an oversized, chunky cable knit that it usually paired with sheer tights and boots. This gives me a very 2006-feeling (namely because I owned one of these and styled it just like that – plus a black fabric flower in my hair). Thanks to the updated, incoming fashion, there is a new definition for the term sweater dress and it is much cooler. Nowadays, a sweater dress, or rather a sweatshirt dress, is an edgy twist on the former. During the cold months, I like to pair mine with over the knee boots (seen on my blog here) or a pair of lace up ankle booties like these ones! Jump on board with the new sweater dress of the season!
The goal of this look is to seem like you’ve borrowed something from your boyfriend’s closet. Think of it as another sexy version of a man’s dress shirt! It should be loose and oversized but not swallow you up entirely. To get the oversized look I was after, I sized up one size in this particular dress! I love this outfit so much because it’s so versatile – it’s cute enough for date night but casual enough for a day full of busy errands. I actually copied this exact dress from my gorgeous cousin, Taryn, who was originally inspired by my Laid Back Blush post! I loved how she styled it so much that I knew I needed to add another one to my collection. She liked my look, I liked hers, etc. You call it copying, I call it recycled inspiration. She styled it with casual sneakers, which I am obsessed with! I love these as options for that kind of look: these, these, these, and these!
