I love Thanksgiving as much as the next girl but now that it’s over, we can focus on what we all really care about – Christmas. The whole season surrounding Christmas is such a magical time and it only spans over a couple weeks so I like to make it last as long as I possibly can. Growing up, my mom always started bringing out the Christmas boxes out of storage right after Thanksgiving which I am so grateful for. It added a sense of magic and excitement to the house that could never be replicated otherwise. She always kept our decor pretty classic but changed things up over the years to keep it looking fresh. That is one of my favorite things about holiday decor – there are some things that always remain the same and stay in the family forever but there is always room to add your special touch to the traditions. Today I am going to give you three different looks that I have really been loving for holiday decor. After doing a ton of research on my own and scoping out all of the retailers for Christmas decor (a grueling task, I know), I found that Target had the cutest by far! In addition to having the best options, the prices were super reasonable which is always helpful for something you’ll only be using a few weeks out of the year.
Something that I find really helpful when establishing my holiday decor for the year is to come up with a theme. Whenever I say that you should follow a theme, I find that many people’s minds immediately race to children’s parties and unappealing characters but that is definitely not what I mean. When I say theme, I am referring to an overall look you’re going for. How do you want the room to feel? What accents do you want to appear throughout the design? These are the things you should consider first! Also, consider what style your house already has. Adding ultra modern Christmas decorations to an old-fashioned Victorian home will not look right together. Think outside the box! You don’t have to do a red and green color scheme just because it’s Christmas. If your house has more of a beachy look, you can find white-washed wooden Christmas trees and matte gold ornaments to go along with the casual aesthetic. This isn’t to say you need to find a Santa in flip flops and a Hawaiian shirt – yes, that really exists and no, you don’t need that. Follow a theme by establishing a cohesive look for the holidays but not doing anything too literally.
Glam
This is such a classic look for the holidays! I really love how everything is more formal and glitzy but nothing is too over the top. I decided to keep the palette for this really neutral to show you that you can be in the holiday spirit without being predictable. This would be a really gorgeous theme for someone with a more modern home. The marble Christmas tree and shaggy pillows bring in an element of glamour to the house that is still inherently festive. Since I kept the decor in an all monochromatic palette, I paid a lot of attention to add in different shapes and textures to make sure it didn’t fall flat. Switching out your normal pillows for these shaggy options allows for the holiday decor to look purposeful without making major changes to your home’s decor. I also love the idea of a faux fur tree skirt because it looks so gorgeous up against the deep green color of the Christmas tree. It adds a grounding element and keeps the rustic tree in theme. For the wrapping paper, I decided to keep it neutral as well and I love that this particular option has metallic details. Coming up with a theme for your wrapping paper will make the decor look chic, even with all of the presents under the tree on Christmas morning. Decorate the tree in a variety of ornaments within the gold, silver, and mirrored family and voila – you’ve got a Glam Christmas!

Playful
This playful look is a different aesthetic for me but I love it SO much! Having all of this whimsical decor would be such a fun look, especially if you have young children in the house. It allows you to have bright colors and different textures without being too traditional or textbook. I love how these pieces are all traditional holiday decor with a twist! The holly wreath is a classic but this one is made of felt and has pom pom berries, which gives a sense of whimsy to the piece! The starting point for me when making this collection was the wall mount. I just about died when I saw it – too cute! It is a play on the average deer wall mount but it’s a friendly plush version. So sweet and totally animal-friendly. Even without kids in the house, I love the vintage look this theme gives off. The Christmas tree tied onto the old-fashioned car and the delicate felt garland gives me a feeling of coziness and simplicity that I really love.

Rustic Chic
This collection might just be my favorite! It’s hard to decide but I really love the juxtaposition of this theme. I love the raw wood combined with the gold accents – it perfectly combines polished and rustic. To achieve this look, I kept this juxtaposition in mind throughout so that it didn’t go too far one way or the other. I didn’t want the rustic touches to come off as messy or country! At the same time, I didn’t want the chic touches to make it too glamorous and perfect. I did this by adding equal elements of both looks to achieve the ideal harmony. I love the idea of having mismatched stockings. As long as the stockings are a similar size, they won’t look totally unrelated but the different fabrics gives an informal vibe. For the wrapping paper theme, this one fit perfectly into my look because of the raw Kraft paper combined with the metallic gold-foil Christmas trees. Finding the balance between these contrasting styles can be difficult but once you nail it, it will be perfectly imperfect!
