If you’re anything like me, whenever you leave the hairdresser, you feel pretty glamorous. Yes, the color touch-up and new hair style are fab but it’s really the blowout that makes me feel like a whole new person. I always walk out thinking “I wish I could do my hair like this every day!” but a blowout can be pretty hard to master, especially when you’re doing it on yourself. I can never get it quite smooth enough or add that perfect bend that they make with the round brush. I have finally figured out a way to get the look of a voluminous blowout without even picking up a blow dryer or round brush. Our prayers have been answered!
- Start with your natural, dry hair. I like to wash mine the night before, let it air dry, and style it in the morning. This gives my hair time to dry completely without using any additional heat. If you’re in a rush, you can rough dry your hair with the blow dryer quickly!
- For this look, you’ll need a large barrel curling iron. This is what will give you a voluminous wave as opposed to a curl. My favorite is a 1.5″ barrel because I really love a lot of movement and bend in the hair. If you prefer more of a straight look and just want the ends to be turned in, you can opt for a 2″ barrel. My favorite styling tool ever is the T3 Whirl Trio Wand (on sale now!) – I’ve been using it for almost 6 months now and it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to my hair. It has interchangeable barrels (1″, 1.25″, and 1.5″) so it takes care of all my styling needs in one.
- Divide your hair into two halves, down the back of your head, so that it’s more manageable. Then section off the bottom third of your hair.
- Using the large barrel, curl 1-1.5 inch sections away from your face until you’ve curled that entire layer.
- Curl the other two layers of this section by taking 1-1.5 inch sections and curling away from your face.
- Repeat these steps on the other side of your head. Make sure to curl all sections away from your face – this will create a more uniform bend in the hair, similar to what you would achieve with a blowout.
- Once you’re finished curling all the hair, let the curls set as long as possible. Do your makeup while the curls are cooling off! This will not make the curls any tighter – don’t worry! It will just give longevity to the style so that your “blowout” lasts all day long.
- Spray with your favorite hairspray! Make sure you’re using one that allows the hair to have movement but still hold shape. You’re not looking for a super strong hold! My favorite is L’Oreal Elnett Hairspray.
- Shake out the curls with your fingers – they will loosen up a lot. If you want them even looser, brush them out carefully and gently with a boar bristle brush until you’ve achieved the look you desire.
- Finish with a light spritz of hairspray to tame any fly-aways and set your faux blowout!
