Before I officially started planning our wedding, I always had a bunch of different scenarios in my head. Wedding Plan A, Wedding Plan B, Wedding Plan C, etc. This is not because I plan on getting married more than once – it’s because I have an absolute obsession with all things weddings. There are so many different styles and color schemes you can go with that would make the day absolutely gorgeous. But when it comes down to it, you have to choose what speaks to you and what goes best with your style, time of year, and venue. Today I am going to be breaking down some of my favorite wedding color scheme options for you and how I would execute each style! Hopefully these inspiration boards I’ve put together can give you a starting point to planning the wedding of your dreams.
Moody Blue Hues
I don’t know if it all goes back to the “something blue” tradition but something about the color blue is very bridal to me! For this color scheme, think more grey-hues than true blues. To achieve this look, every shade you choose should have a bit of a smokey quality to it. Keep this color scheme in mind even when choosing your wedding gown! If your bridesmaids will be wearing a cool blue tone, make sure your dress isn’t a yellow-based ivory. This will provide an unflattering contrast. Look for a dress with a cooler undertone. If you really want to push the envelope, search for a wedding gown that has a very subtle blue tone. Hayley Paige does this color really well! Don’t feel like you need to stick with the blues for every detail though. For example, only incorporate florals that are naturally blue. Dyed flowers are a big no-no! Keep the rest of the flowers white – it will allow the pops of blue to make more of a statement.
Greenery Galore
I am obsessed with the greenery trend right now, especially in weddings. Something to be careful with is the type of greenery you decide on. My cousin Taryn, who had an ultra stylish wedding of her own, pointed out to me that greenery trends have changed a lot over the years! She said that choosing greens like eucalyptus, lamb’s ear, and lemon leaf are going to give you a much more modern look than the fern greenery that was popular in the 80’s. Genius! Keep that in mind when putting together your floral plan. Also, if you are going for this look, make sure you find a florist you love since they will be setting the scene for your wedding even more than they usually would if you chose another style. The key to executing this look properly is to make sure you’re mixing lots of different kinds of greenery! This will give you a more organic, layered look rather than a jungle feel. Be sure to incorporate lots of luxe fabrics and rich neutral flowers to add texture and warm the space back up!
Modern Black and White
Black and white is so classic but it went out of style for a minute because it was a bit overdone. But B&W is back, baby, and it’s better than ever. Coming from a girl that had a formal black and white 12th birthday party (yeah, I am serious!), I can tell you that black and white parties have come a long way. While I still think this theme is best when it’s ultra formal, the days of checkered dance floors and strict color-coded dress codes are over. Black and white color schemes are super modern and fun now! The best way to make this color scheme chic is to really commit to it. When you say black and white – mean it! Don’t incorporate too much greenery in the florals, make sure all of your whites match, etc. I also think incorporating prints like marble is a super fun touch! This adds an even more modern feel.
Blushing Bride
I die for this blush-based color scheme! Rose gold’s rise in popularity this year has made this color scheme seriously swoon-worthy. It’s important to anchor this look with a darker, more dramatic shade. Pick one that has a similar undertone to blush – think of a dark mauve. This will give the entire look more structure, trust me! You don’t want your wedding to look like a little girl’s birthday party. Incorporate rose gold in unexpected ways – a dessert bar, fun favors, or even the bride’s accessories. These little touches of metallic throughout the wedding give an added layer of glamour! Since blush is already such a soft color, you don’t have to work too hard to bring whimsy into the style. Draped blush fabrics and luscious florals will take care of that easily!
