I’ve had a soft spot for A-line skirts ever since I was a little girl. Maybe it has something to do with the glamorous ladies who wore them: Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, and my gorgeous Nonna. The silhouette brings a simple elegance that no other piece can bring. A-line skirts are feminine, powerful, and glam all at the same time but they can be tough to pull off sometimes. After years of trying to incorporate them into my wardrobe, I have found the key to success. In order to style an A-line skirt properly, it’s always good to pair it with a top that has a little extra something.
Whether you go for a cropped sweater, like I did, or an ultra-slimming top that you can tuck in, it will modernize the look and keep you from looking frumpy! You should definitely not leave any long tops untucked – this will give you the ultimate “granny” look that you’re not going for. Also, avoid wearing anything with a super high-neckline and long sleeves, this will make the look too conservative and give a librarian vibe. Opt for something that shows a bit of skin, like a crop top, slinky tank top, or a fun bodysuit. Another key to A-line skirt styling is that you need to wear a high heel. Like I’ve mentioned in previous posts, you should follow the rule of thumb that any skirt below the knee calls for a high heel. This will keep your legs looking long and lean even though you’re not showing much of them.
