Sephora is my heaven – between the endless supply of makeup swatches and the infinite amount of hair products to test out, it basically doesn’t get any better than this for me. For more reasons than I can name, Sephora is my go-to place for anything beauty or pampering related, no matter what. It’s obvious that it is my absolute favorite because even if it is not the closest or least expensive choice, I still prefer to shop there over any other option. My love and loyalty is unending, just ask my VIB Rogue membership card. Although the incredible selection of makeup, hair products, skincare, and fragrance has certainly done its part in securing Sephora in my heart, there is one thing in particular that puts it miles ahead of any other beauty store. In two words: Sephora Samples.
I am always beyond shocked when people don’t know about the sample system at Sephora! It seems so simple but let me tell you – it’s life-changing as a consumer. Don’t you wish you could try everything before you buy it? I, for one, wish I could wear a pair of heels around for a week before I fully commit to the purchase but since that’s frowned upon, Sephora samples are the next best thing. Testing beauty products is a must – you need to see how the shade looks in natural light, how the formula lasts on your skin, if the product makes a difference in your skin texture, etc. It is a necessity and I don’t know why more stores don’t automatically do this! So basically, when you’re shopping in Sephora, whether it’s a new foundation, face mask, or hair oil, you can of course use the tester on the shelf to give yourself an idea of what the product is like. If it seems promising, you can go one step further and ask any of the Sephora employees to make you a sample of the product! Within reason, of course. Obviously they’re not going to be able to give you a sample of a pressed powder brush, etc. They will take the product and make you a small jar, enclosed in a plastic pouch, with the name and shade of the product you’re trying. Completely complimentary!
9 times out of 10, when I have done this and sampled a product at home, I have run straight back to the store and purchased it. The other 10% of the time, I realized the shade didn’t match or learned something important about the product that I wouldn’t have known if I purchased it right away. From Sephora’s standpoint, I am sure it makes customers make more informed purchases and results in more satisfied consumers and less returns. Side note: Sephora has an incredible return policy and will take back anything you’re not satisfied with. See their website for more details!
