Whenever I get questions about interior design, the conversation usually starts and ends with “where do I get that?” Over the years, it has become obvious to me that one of the main problems people have with interior design is that they just don’t know where to start – literally. Since I have such a keen interest in all things interiors, I am always on the lookout for the latest and greatest shops so today I am going to share them with you! I’ve curated a list of shops from all different price ranges that incorporate all different styles so that all the bases are covered.
This is a shop that most people are familiar with but I thought I would include it regardless. For those of you who don’t know, Pottery Barn is a home decor powerhouse that focuses on mainly traditional furniture and accessories. All of their stuff is ultra high-quality and the price point is pretty reasonable considering what you’re getting. I love Pottery Barn‘s options for clean-line furniture and rustic wood pieces! This is also a great shop for accessories, such as table lamps, trays, and wall decor. If you’ve never shopped at PB before, definitely browse around – you’re bound to find something you love.
Oh. Em. Gee. RH is home decor #goals. They specialize in more formal, statement pieces that usually feature muted, weathered tones and materials with a touch of glam. If you’re looking for chandeliers, look no further. Their lighting fixtures are out of this world. You can find very unique things here so if you have a challenging style, this may be the place for you. If you’re into a moody, gothic decor style – RH will have tons of pieces for that. They also have the most stellar industrial style decor! What I like most about RH, though, is the pieces that are so unique and spectacular that you can design an entire room around them. For example, no one does oversized better than Restoration Hardware. They take a really simple design that is nice on its own and make it more grand and oversized than the average. Doing this really turns it into something marvelous. Since the price point is quite high, it’s not always realistic to design an entire room from RH (side note: sticking to one retailer is a practice I shy away from regardless) so it’s nice to know you only need one or two things from their inventory to make your room look amazing. Restoration Hardware also just introduced a new membership program where you can pay $100 annually and save 25% on all your purchases, plus an additional 20% on sale items. Definitely worth it if you’re a frequent RH shopper!
It always surprises me how much I truly love West Elm. In fact, of all the retailers I am mentioning, I would say I own the most amount of stuff from West Elm. The reason it surprises me is because their inventory mostly revolves around mid-century decor which is not what I would initially describe my style as. But since their designs are so elegant yet simple, I think anyone could incorporate them seamlessly into their home decor. I am a huge fan of their accessories and upholstery. No other retailer holds a candle to West Elm‘s variety of brass and gold accessories – that’s a fact. Also, if you’re looking for high quality curtains, bedding, or accent pillows – this is the place to score them. They offer a 15% discount to students and teachers – woo hoo – and they are constantly having generous sales and promotions. If you have your eye on something here that is a bit out of your price range, subscribe to their email list and keep an eye out for an applicable sale. You won’t have to wait too long!
Wayfair
Besides their catchy jingle on their commercials, I love the wide variety of inventory Wayfair offers. Their website is really easy to navigate and their products can be super stylish! Since the site does have a ton of different stuff, it can take a while to find what you need (pro tip: use the search filters to help you narrow it down!) but once you find it, it’s worth it. They also offer a lot of sales and promotions so keep an eye out for that. I had a lot of luck finding things like lighting and smaller accessories on here when I was furnishing our house. They also offer free shipping on all items over $49 which is a huge cost saver if you’re ordering things like furniture or fragile items. Wayfair is part of a huge home decor family, including Joss & Main, Birch Lane, and Dwell Studio – all of which I am a fan of!
It always shocks me how many people do not know about the magic that is Home Goods. Maybe it’s because my mom and I run over there every chance we get but it truly is one of my favorite places to shop for home decor. If you’ve never been before (I don’t know what you’re waiting for!), it is basically a TJ Maxx or Marshalls that is specifically for home decor. That being said, it is not somewhere that you can shop online and it doesn’t have predictable, consistent stock. But if you’re patient and have an eye for great pieces, Home Goods will make all of your dreams come true. Over the years, they have really stepped it up when it comes to furniture and larger pieces! They have amazing side tables, accent chairs, and bookcases for super reasonable prices. One thing that I will say is to try and avoid buying things that you need an entire set of. For example, I bought my lamps for my living room at Home Goods but when I first found it, I could only find a single lamp. I loved it so much that I bought it anyway and prepared myself to search every Home Goods in the area until I found its match. It took a few months and about a dozen trips to Home Goods to complete the pair but it was SO worth it. The lamps are sold at Neiman Marcus for nearly $500 each – I got mine at Home Goods for less than $100 for the pair! *takes a bow* If you’re into kitchen gadgets, platters, and cake stands – Home Goods will be your heaven. They have the most amazing selection of flatware, ceramics, and servewear and it’s all so inexpensive. Also, if you’re on the hunt for a stunning mirror, run to your nearest Home Goods and scoop one up. I could literally talk about Home Goods for hours but I’ll stop now. Just trust me and GO!
