I need to tell you guys about my latest obsession – essential oils. Whether it’s diffusing them or rubbing them all over my body, I am sold on these babies. I know, I know – I am totally late to the essential oil party but it was worth the wait. The main reason I wanted to try essential oils was because I am such a candle fanatic but I was getting really tired of waiting for them to burn properly, not being able to leave the house with them lit, etc. Plus, and probably most importantly, a lot of candles out there are bad for your health. I am not going to get deep into that but basically, breathing in artificial scents and soy aromas all day is no bueno. Also, a lot of times, overpowering artificial scents can make me nauseated or give me a migraine. For Christmas, my sweet parents got me the Now Solutions Ultrasonic Oil Diffuser and I have been obsessed ever since. I wanted to try it out for a few months before recommending it to you but now it’s official – you need it.
When you’re choosing essential oils, the main thing you want to pay attention to is that the oils are 100% pure. In other words, there are no artificial additives, etc. that could be changing the composition of the oils. This is especially important if you plan on ingesting the oils for health reasons (I don’t do that). The problem is that so many of the popular essential oil brands can be so expensive! Since I knew I was going to be using them primarily for diffusing, I opted for a less expensive version on Amazon. I bought the Top 6 pack from Radha Beauty and they have been perfect! They’re 100% pure therapeutic grade and they have been wonderful for diffusing and topical application. This pack includes the six most popular oils: lavender, tea tree, lemongrass, eucalyptus, orange, and peppermint. I opted for this pack because I wasn’t sure which ones I would love so this seemed like a great starting point.
My favorite oils to diffuse are lavender, eucalyptus, and peppermint. I use 10-12 drops of lavender in my diffuser every night before bed and it makes me relax and get sleepy, which is helpful for a night owl like myself. Since I work from home, I love to use eucalyptus during the day to put some pep in my step and give me energy to get all of my work done! It just helps to wake me up fully and get me ready to start the day. Peppermint is one that I usually mix in with eucalyptus – it smells so good and makes the scent a bit more refreshing. I also love to diffuse this oil after dinner because it helps to get rid of any scents from cooking – it’s like a natural air freshener!
As far as topical treatments go, tea tree oil is a must. It is a natural disinfectant so it’s perfect to apply to any breakouts or blemishes that you see peaking through. It cleans the area without drying it out and helps to diminish any breakouts overnight. Who doesn’t love that?! Also, I often use the same oils that I diffuse topically if I need a little extra something. For example, if I am ever feeling overwhelmed and anxious, I love to rub a few drops of lavender under my nostrils and on my temples to give me a calming sensation. It sounds insane but it seriously works! Also, I suffer with headaches frequently and I have noticed such relief when I rub peppermint oil on my temples. Life saver!
